080208 - Great web-site containing up-to-date news and very basic information about Tajikistan (Persia of Central Asia). Thank you very much for a very good job and lots of efforts you put to it.

However, I have got one suggestion here. It would be better to contact other top 10 Tajikistan visiting web-site to put your web-site link in all of them. Tajiks of Tajikistan, need to know that there is such a useful web-page here, too. So, we need to get that into consideration, too.

At the mean time, I will also contact those top 10, and ask them to put your link in their web-sites. We will make this frequent visited web-page.

Looking forward for your great work and keep that spirit of work. Seepas.

Perooz bemaned,

Pors.

100208 - I agree with Perooz. This is an incredible site and to have this in English is quite unique. It would be good if more Central Asia experts were introduced to the site and they wrote comments, blogs and reports. Keep it up. Brilliant. mt

110208 - The thing that made me think that it was not based in CA was that some of the articles seemed critical of the leaders of various CA countries.
I don't know exactly how free the press is in Tajikistan, but based on
my experience living in Uzbekistan, I know that criticizing the
president there gets people killed.

Keep up the good work, User

120208 - Mansi Mehrotra's piece is a thorough one. I only have a small thing to object:

The part about Pakistan's involvement in civil war in her piece sounds a little suspisious to me. - I hear rather an anti-pakistani talking about Pakistan rather a researcher giving a fair account of the events. It's a fact that Pakistan contributed to Tajik opposition, but it was not the only country or rather government. Secondly, backing Islam and wanting the civil war to continue in Tajikistan are two different strategic aims. But I dont agree with her when she says Pakistan wanted keep the war in Tajikistan going. Thirdly, if she chose to talk about who backed the opposition or was involved in the civil war in Taj, then she should at least briefly give an account of others in the picture - Afghanistan, Russia, Uzbek agenda. But finger pointing Pakistan gives a wrong impression - that they were the only villain.

Otherwise the article is a very informative one. User

120208 - Kudos for publishing interesting articles on CAS. Being an avid reader on CAS issues and Research Scholar from Jawaharlal Nehru University,New Delhi,I enjoy reading various infos on CAS. The write-ups on CAS-India relations, specially the latest one on Ayni Airbase n Indian interest by Ms. Mansi Mehrotra was a good piece exploring different countries' stakes in Tajik affairs. Keep it up. Bon Voyage. Ajitabh Singh

120208 - The story about the Afghan journalist being repremanded for using Dari words is quite amazing. I cannot believe how a so called minister of culture can speak such words, so totally empty of any culture. Even the ministry itself is reffered to in the interview as the ministry of "CULTUR". Although this is a Latin word its usage is accepted !!! And yet the minister says they have clear guidlines for usages of words in official circles. Pitty a clever nation that lost a truely cultured Minister of Culture such as Dr. Raheen. mt

User
tajikistanweb.com : Yes, it is. All English articles are easily-accessible via our search engine. Alternatively, you can find each item on its thematic page. For instance, if the item you are looking for concerns politics, it could be found on the 'Politics' page in the first column underneath the main items.

Mani
tajikistanweb.com: Yes, we have thought about it indeed and even set up a designated space for our materials in Persian script. However, lack of manpower is the main obstacle for the time being. Hopefully, we will overcome it in the near future.

100408 - I think Social-democratic party did wise, not to go for rally. Because it was obviouse that government was planning to manipulate the happenings and turn the rally to an unstable one, just to have reason to accuse and charge the tiny number of people who found guts to talk to them in the manner of protest. government did not agree to provide security for the rally and warned if something goes wrong social democrats will be charged. It was clear they were waiting forward to play the game and get unwanted people under the bars.

180508 -Salam Doost.
Dushanbe's State Republic Library (at Prospekt Lenina 34, 734610) now has a donated copy of Raising Stone 1 - Paul Hai's Racks & Pinions Theory.
This is a book which explains how ancient Egyptians built their Pyramids at Giza. The ancient Egyptian engineers used an ancient wooden pulley which was lost until indentified and re-discovered in August of 2006 by Paul Hai.
No ramps were used at all, but wooden pulleys somewhat like a three-wheeled-stepping-trolley walked the blocks up (or down) the Pyramids stepped structure via hoisting ropes.
So, they used the Pyramid to build the Pyramid progressively.
Paul says the English language is not vital for understanding his work as the book contains many pictures showing graphically how the ancient engineers accomplished their work, step by step in great detail. Please note this for the awarness of teachers in the region ... for education ... and of course, general knowledge and curiousity. Paul's website is www.haitheory.com
From Queensland State in Australia,

200608 - I would like to know what is being done presently by the free world, and by the brethren of the Tajiks of Uzbekistan in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, in order to help them protect their cultural rights as promised in the Uzbek constitution and international human right laws to which the government of Uzbekistan is a signatory to?

By these rights I am referring to their rights to their mother language, its guarantee of education in that language to the highest levels and access to literature and media in that language, as well as freedom from fear and retribution in declaring their ethnicity openly and practicing their historical and cultural activities, festivities and customs.

Secondly I would like to know if you have an exact figure as to how many millions of Uzbekistan's 26 million population speak the Tajik language presently and if this number is remaining falling, remaining steady or rising with the stipulation of its growth in the future.

Thank you,
Austin

tajikistanweb.com: Uzbekistan is a rigid dictatorship where minorities' rights are abused systematically. Any attempt to help them protect their cultural rights from abroad is interpreted as a cultural intrusion. A few Tajik intellectuals left in Uzbekistan still publish books in Cyrillic Persian, teach Persian (Tajiki) and print papers. However, most of Uzbekistani Tajiks lack books in Persian and Cyrillic (Tajik). Tajikistanweb has joined a worldwide campaign of providing the Tajiks of Uzbekistan with Persian and Cyrillic books. Anybody willing to send books to Uzbekistan can contact us.

According to the heavily fraudulent census statistics in Uzbekistan, only 5 percent of the population are Tajik. But Tajik activists within the country believe that their number is around 11-12 million.
