"Tajikistan - often described as the poorest amongst the Central Asian countries - is also the richest in terms of cultural heritage and history. The two Tajik cities of Samarqand and Bukhara -- now in the territory of Uzbekistan due to Communist divisions -- were the bastions of intellectual and cultural excellence during the Samanid era 819-1005 AD." (Massoumeh Torfeh)
The picture is different nowadays. There is little attention paid to economic and political developments in Tajikistan either by the international community or by those ruling the nation. Major international think tanks seldom consider the country important enough to write about it. International organizations give priority to economic rather than social or political affairs. And inside Tajikistan due to an almost complete black out of independent media there is no debate and discussion on how to progress.
Tajikistanweb.com as a non-governmental private web-site based in London is dedicated to covering news and current affairs in Tajikistan, as well as being a forum for web discussion and debate. Tajikistanweb is devoted to publishing reports and articles from professional journalists and experts as well as reports, views, blogs and comment by citizen journalists. We are especially interested in multi media contributions. There are certain topics on which discussion is particularly welcome due to the impact they have on the society: These include: nationalism; regionalism; human rights; women's rights; human trafficking; drugs and addiction amongst the young; standards of national education; the environment; water as a great source of energy; music and dance; sports and entertainment.
Tajikistanweb.com will appreciate your collaboration. Articles will be published in two languages: English and Persian (Cyrillic).
